Whenever I speak to a new client for their first coaching session I find it difficult to understand that 99% of them don’t know in detail what their ultimate dreams are. Yes, most of them say money, they want a lot of money, or to win the lottery and to travel the world, but what they would do with that money, none of them know.
As children we are instilled with fairy tales and dreams coming true to life. What the story tellers don’t tell you in those positive ending tales is that in order to attain your dreams you need to know the intimate details of them. You need to know at least 3 powerful elements about your goals and dreams. These are:
- What is it precisely you want to achieve?
- If you want to move into your dream home, what area is it located, how many bedrooms, size of garden, a garage, gated or not, how many floors, constructed from what material?
Do you see the detail you need to know to at least give this dream a chance of materialising? If it’s an emotion or skill you want to develop, again you need to know as much detail as possible. Say you want to become a renowned writer, what genre would be your expertise? For adults, kids or just women? Detail is important here.
You need to know this information so your subconscious can begin to put into action some steps to begin the process.
- Next, what are the step you need to complete to achieve this dream. Even if you’re not sure of what the precise steps are, you at least need to put “research” down as a task you must complete. Hoping that the dream will manifest of its own accord is fool hardly. You need to take steps for it to materialise.
- Finally, what date do you wish to achieve your goal; is it in 10 years, 5 years, 12 months or 3 months. When you set a time limit magic happens. When you set a realistic timespan, it’s so much easier for you to put the action steps into play. You can see the goal post and you can enlist all the people, strategies and systems you need to ensure your goal is achieved on time.
We all have dreams and goals! Yet so very few people actually achieve them. In order to be in the front running to achieve your goals, you need to know at least three things about your dreams; 1) What is it you want to achieve, 2) What actual steps are needed to achieve them and 3) what date are you looking to achieving them.
Achieving your dreams is simple if you follow the important 3 steps but alas, most people will never follow these steps and never attain their dreams. Ensure you are not one of them.
